Introducing Blogger Stats

Posted by Staszek Paśko and Wiktor Gworek, Software Engineers

(Update 08/30: We’ve made these improvements to the Blogger Stats, based on your feedback and suggestions.)
  • Self-view exclusion: You can now exclude your own visits by clicking on “Don’t track your own pageviews” link on the Stats | Overview page. We’re also now excluding traffic coming from Blogger admin admin pages and post Preview, providing more accurate pageview data.
  • More effective bot traffic filtering. We’ve made several improvements to detect “bots” (the non-human visitors, such as crawlers) including extending our list of known “bots” to provide more accurate pageviews from real visitors.
  • Internationalization. Now Blogger Stats is available in more than 40 languages.
---

Although some of you use Google Analytics or other third party tools to track your blog traffic, many of you have requested an easier-to-use, fully-integrated stats feature for Blogger. We heard that, and we are excited to announce that Blogger in Draft now has built-in stats. Just go to Blogger in Draft, and you'll notice a new "Stats" tab. You don't have to install or configure anything to start benefitting from Stats.

The coolest thing about the new Blogger Stats is that it monitors and analyzes your visitor traffic in near-real-time. You can see which posts are getting the most visits and which sites are sending traffic to your blog right now. For example, if a reader shares one of your blog posts on Twitter and the post is getting lots of clicks, you will see a traffic increase in Blogger Stats almost instantly, with the particular Tweet mentioning your post being identified as the traffic source. Of course, traffic data across longer time periods (day/week/month) and all-time historical data are available as well.

There's also a lot more data that's being tracked, such as popular search keywords that send visitors to your blog, which country your visitors come from, and which web browsers they are using. Basically, with the new Stats feature, you know what's going on with your blog right now.

The new Stats feature shows all of this data in a simple, easy-to-understand graphical user interface. Since Stats are part of Blogger, you don't have to sign up for another service, or embed any code in a gadget.

Additionally, if you want the enterprise-level power and flexibility of Google Analytics, you can still use it, as outlined in this Help Center article. Note that the pageview data in Blogger Stats and in Google Analytics may not be identical, due to different collection mechanisms used. Also, Blogger Stats do not support private blogs for now.

Check out the new Stats feature now, and let us know what you think.

Apparently we're also going to need to wait a month or so before the stats can become very useful ;)

Blogger team - this is getting amazing.

I remember when Blogger first started - my oh my how fast the evolution is moving.

I see lots of very, very small businesses adopting blogger instead of an overly priced website.

This to me is all part of the new Yellow Pages

Looks good. One much needed feature: the ability to filter out traffic from a given IP address/domain/etc. ESpecially for those of us with small readerships, our own hits can show up rather conspicuously.

Hey Blogger team this is a real plus. It seems to be a good resource but I'm not sure it would give enough insight to replace Google Analytics. I'll have to compare the two for a few weeks.

I think this is terrific! But I'm just wondering why Blogger Stats is showing more pageviews than Analytics is? Is Google Analytics inaccurate or is Stats inaccurate?

Good for a start but the result is falls. Need an ip filter feature, or just filter automatically *.blogger.com source. As i edit my blog and checking i am counted. As I just started a blog half of my traffic is me :) Analytics can filter IP.

In a word: FABULOUS! Thanks for this convenient feature where everything is in one place at your fingertips and can be viewed at a glance in near real-time. It saves time toggling over to other collection sites or Google Analytics. It certainly cuts down on the time to analyze how a post is performing and how well the blog is growing in presence. Thanks again, much appreciated!

How do I exclude my visits from stats? Thanks

Διομηδης said...

the statistics are very nice but they would be better if they could show unique visitors too, not only page views!

Grega® said...

Perfect!!!

Anonymous said...

Great - but it REALLY needs to be able to import old stats, or edit the total stats number.

If I'm able to edit the starts count on blogger to my one that I have on a stats site, I would totally quit that other stats counter site.

PLEASE BLOGGER LET US DO THIS! PLEASE!

Anonymous said...

**BLOGGER: PLEASE READ**

Please let us import stats! I use www.blogpatrol.com, but it sucks.

If I'm able to import my data from it, I'll delete that account and stick to Blogger's stats feature!

nico-yan said...

Nice one with live traffic, but I guess I will keep my Google Analytic code in my blog until google add features like unique visitors and time on site.
And btw, I can't see Linux OS in Pageviews by Operating Systems stats, though I'm using Ubuntu occasionally.

Charlie said...

The only flaw in this is that the stats count how many times I clicked on a page myself. It doesn't distinquish from my hits from the hits of others. Is there a way to determine this?

This is the reason why I chose blogger. :-)

ClustrMaps Team said...

Great service - just wanted to add that ClustrMaps counts 'daily unique visitors' at city-level locations, and thus in our view is a complementary service to Blogger Stats, so we recommend Blogger users to use both!

tech&tech said...

I believe that what is absent henceforth and should shortest it is included in blogger they is the categories of articles. know if shortly does become such something?

Selvam said...

This is just awesome. The one, which i have been looking for many days. Nice analysis. Very quick report.

Netty said...

much more convenient that google analytics, but this really needs an ip blocker so that I can filter out my own visits. Other than that, great job!

SilverMoon Dragon said...

Apart from the face that Blogger site design preview means that half of my traffic is in fact me, I love this!

Google Analytics on my main blog told me I had one hit for the last month, and I was set to throw in the towel, but then I saw this and checked - the real total is closer to 995, with 36 hits just today! Will be scrapping all my google code.

Now if you could block my own page views that originate from my own blogger dashboard, I'd be happy with that!

usabilityramblings said...

Oh, that looks nice! I wrote an article about the missing stats (or rather the fuzzy Analytics integration) of blogger (http://usabilityramblings.wordpress.com/2010/06/22/blogspot-vs-wordpress/). But this looks good. If I have enough free time, I might just switch back to Blogger!

I was hoping Blogger would include Google Maps instead of this very basic map known from Analytics. I'd really like it if each town from which visits came had a pin so I can see the whole world with pins in different places and to zoom in and out to see more exactly where those places are.

I like this new feature but the map has really let me down.
