Update: Geotagging is re-enabled. (11/17/2009)
We’ve temporarily disabled the geotagging feature in the Blogger in draft post editor due to it not working and showing that annoying JavaScript alert.
The feature will come back once we fix it up. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Does this affect people like me that use a Maps API key w/their blogger accounts or no?
I love Blogger's straightforwardness and quick action. So refreshing after years of happy-faced PR from Typepad. Sorry if this is OT.
Thanks that has been driving me nuts. Will previously tagged posts retain their data?
The problem should only effect new posts.. The Google maps API (used to add new locations) was updated to *require* a sensor parameter.. the old data is fine.
Should be a two second fix.. followed by XX hours of testing and what I'm sure is a HUGE release process!!
Oh wait, if the Maps API was updated it means I have to update my use of it anyway. D'oh!
Thanks for the heads up. Wish there was a mailing list or something to keep me abreast of changes like that. :/
With my luck there probably is.
Was wondering about this for about a week now.
Count me in as a happy camper to see this fix. It's a real pain in the fleshy part of my body that I sit on.
Alain.. I THINK it only has to do with geocoding.. I have a multiple map apps, I haven't seen the same messages from the simple ones even though the latest API docs say it is a required parameter.
Why previously geotagged posts don't show location information? Is an issue not only of the editor but the whole geotagging system, isn't it?
Is this likely to be much longer?
I, too, am wondering why the displaying of location data has been turned off, when the problem initially was only with editing. In any event, the latitude and longitude data is still available in the blog feeds. So while we are waiting for the official fix to land, I have used the feed APIs to bring back some of the missing functionality. My blog, Phone Cam 365 - blogspot, now has clickable latitude and longitude information for the entries. It is a weakness of the current Blogger geocoding concept that the reverse geocoding strings associated with the coordinates ("Saarbrücken, Germany", for example) are not available through the API. That is why I am stuck with latitudes and longitudes.
If anyone else is so impatient to have some form of location functionality back in their blog, just look at the source HTML of my blog, and cut and paste the lines marked by "!!! Geocoding fix !!!" into your own template. They should work for any public blog with feeds enabled.
The whole situation is rather frustrating. When the location search broke, I wrote a Greasemonkey script that fixed it. For my purposes, it even improved the search, allowing me to resize the map, and chose one of several reverse geocoding strings returned by the Google Maps service. But since Blogger have now removed the location input fields from the editor, the script has no means to pass the location data back to Blogger.
P.S. If you are interested in what other good stuff the feed APIs enable, you could look at the companion site to my blog on Google Appengine (Phone Cam 365 - appspot).
Please fix the geotagging feature! We love it and need it!
Hi folks. Sorry that location data is not showing on blog posts. Basically, we have one switch marked "Geo," so turning it off in the post editor turned it off on the blogs as well. Unfortunate, but that's the setup.
No data has been lost, btw. Once we turn it back on (should have info on that after the weekend) all the old locations will re-appear on their posts.
Busy I think. Or travel to far places without internet.
