Today we’re releasing the first iteration of a completely new version of the Blogger post editor. This editor is more stable, compatible, predictable, and will help us bring more functionality to posts on Blogger over the coming months and years.
Out of the gate you’ll notice two areas where the new editor improves significantly over Blogger’s current editor: images and raw HTML.
One important quick note before we get into those, however: Autosave is currently disabled in the new post editor. We’ll turn it on in an upcoming release, but for now it’s off. You’ll want to periodically remember to save your drafts when using this editor.
On to the fun stuff!
Improved Image Handling
When you upload an image to the new post editor it will appear as a thumbnail in the image dialog box. That way, you can upload several images at once, and then add them into your post at your convenience. The thumbnails will be available until you close the post editor.
When you add an image from the dialog into your post it will be placed at the insertion point instead of at the top of the post.
If you don’t like where an image is in your post, you can drag it around to another spot. If you drag it towards the left side of the editor it will float to the left, likewise for the right, and if you leave it in the center it will be centered. You can drag the image between paragraphs and other block elements. Unlike in the current editor, dragging in the new editor preserves the link to the full-size version of the image. You can easily resize or remove an image with the image size “bubble.” Click on the image (Firefox 3 users may need to double-click) to bring up the bubble, and resize the image instantly. You can resize any image, including ones added by URL, but if you resize an image that was uploaded through the post editor we resample the image on our servers to keep the download size small.
It might be easier to see this in action, so we made a short video to show off some dragging and resizing:
Improved Raw HTML
If you use Edit HTML, especially to add tables and other advanced HTML to your posts, you should find that the new editor has a number of enhancements to make the experience less frustrating, or, dare we say it, even pleasant.
By default, the current post editor replaces any newlines in your post with <br> tags. This can cause problems when you want to use newlines to make table or list HTML clearer, since the inserted <br>s will mangle the formatting significantly. The new post editor does not introduce <br>s within tables, lists, scripts, styles, preformatted blocks, or objects.
Since they won’t destroy the formatting, the new post editor adds clarity newlines to the HTML that’s generated by Compose mode. For example, if you create a list in Compose mode and then look at it in Edit HTML, you’ll see that there are newlines before each of the <li> tags.
For posts made with the new editor, the blog-level “Convert line breaks” setting (from Settings > Formatting) is ignored. Instead, newline behavior is controlled by an Edit HTML setting under “Post Options,” which affects how newlines and <br> tags are displayed in the Edit HTML editor. This means that, unlike “Convert line breaks,” you can change newline behavior when it would be useful for a given post without affecting the display of all the other posts on your blog.
We’ve also added a Compose mode setting to let you choose what happens when HTML tags are typed in to the Compose editor. The default, “Interpret typed HTML,” matches the current post editor’s behavior: typing “<b>bold</b>” into the editor would look like this in your post: bold. If you change the setting to “Show HTML literally” instead, you’ll get: <b>bold</b>.
The Edit HTML and Compose settings, along with the choice of whether to show Edit HTML or Compose by default, are saved per-user, per-blog and are updated when you save a post. The Edit HTML setting defaults to the value of the blog’s “Convert line breaks” the first time you open the new editor.
Other New Features
You’ll find other new functionality here and there in the new editor. Here are a few more highlights:
- Easy link editing in Compose mode. Just click a link and you’ll have the option of changing its URL or removing the link.
- Full Safari 3 support on both Windows and Macintosh. The old editor is pretty quirky on these browsers, but the new editor works as you’d expect.
- New Preview dialog that shows your post in a width and font size approximating what you’d see on a blog.
- Placeholder image for <object> tags (such as those from video embeds) so that you can see and drag them around Compose mode.
Currently Missing Features
Besides the aforementioned autosave, there are a handful of other features from the current post editor that are on our to-do list for the new editor. If you rely on any of these, you may not want to use the new editor for everything just yet.
- Spellcheck
- Video upload
- Hindi transliteration
- Bi-directional text controls
- Toolbar for Edit HTML mode
- FTP file upload
- Enclosures
Be patient: these will all come to the new editor over the upcoming weeks. Look for announcements on this blog.
Known Issues
We’ll be adding to these in the comments, probably, but here are a few little problems you might run into right now:
- The “Blockquote” button is unreliable in Internet Explorer 6.
- Lists and other block elements may get an additional blank line above them, which can be removed after re-editing the post.
- You cannot add more items to a list if you toggle from Compose to Edit HTML and back, or re-edit the post. As a workaround, add new <li> tags in Edit HTML mode.
- Bold and italic keyboard shortcuts do not work in Safari, and the publish and save keyboard shortcuts are not implemented in any browser.
- The site-specific modification that Opera added to enable the old rich text editor does not work with the new editor. We’re investigating adding official support for the new editor under Opera 9.5.
- All images uploaded through the new editor will go to Picasa Web Albums, even for FTP blogs. Images will not get uploaded to your blog’s FTP server.
- Image upload will not work for accounts that have not accepted the image upload Terms of Service. Upload an image through the old post editor to get the opportunity to view and accept the ToS.
- Internet Explorer 5.5 is no longer supported.
We hope that the above issues and missing features will not prevent you from at least giving the new post editor a try.
This editor will, when it’s ready, replace the current post editors across all of Blogger. Therefore, we really appreciate your feedback and especially reports of bugs and other strange behavior that you find. We’d like to address them all now so that things will go smoothly when we turn the new editor on for everybody.

Thanks for this post! I thought something had gone wrong in the blogger in draft mode when my buttons disappeared in html mode (not to mention the video uploader feature).
Thanks for the update!

Ok, the new post editor is really nice. I have one complaint, though. The text-editing field feels kind of cramped. I frequently post images, and it's kind of hard to drag-and-drop them in an area that's not very large. Just my two cents. :)
The fix for breaks inside lists and tables will be very welcome!
I don't see a place to report bugs. Is the official place to report them here in comments?
I'm using the latest firefox on the mac.
I find it difficult to drag the photo from the top of the post to the bottom of the post, and it won't let me cut and paste.
I tried to publish my post, but I had been working on it a while, so I changed the time to be the time that it was at that moment. Then I had to leave my computer. When I returned, I published, but by now the time was old again. However, the post did not go up on my blog, and the post manager said it was still scheduled even though the time had already passed. I opened it up in regular blogger to try and post it now, and all the formatting was now gone. I went back to drafts and the formatting was gone there too. I cannot seem to get this post out of "scheduled" mode. What to do?
I tried again to set a later time and post, after reformatting the text and everything. It finally worked, but it posted without the photo.
Hmm, I didn't change any settings and suddenly all my old posts have extra HTML breaks in pre sections... which results in *two* breaks since the real newline in the pre section gets interpreted too.
Do I have to go fix all my old posts with the new editor? :(
Some great new features, but:
"All images uploaded through the new editor will go to Picasa Web Albums, even for FTP blogs. Images will not get uploaded to your blog’s FTP server."
Please tell that's only temporary? FTP blogs will regain control of their images once it's rolled out to Blogger? Control of my images is precisely why I have some FTP blogs.
Hi,
Any chance of a resizeable editing window?
Those of us with larger screens can do with a bigger window.
I would love to have the option for links to open in a new window instead of having to manually insert target="_blank". If you could just have a check box for us to indicate it, it would be awesome.
Would love to have the option to upload multiple images at once rather than having to add them one by one. I normally have to post 10-15 images per post and this is a real pain.
What happened to the 'justify all' option?
Sorry, I meant 'Justify Full'
Unfortunately there is still no possibility for a picture caption.
The way facebook publishes links (including a picture etc.) would be nice to have in blogger as well...
Romain Francoise: What's your blog's URL? This should have not affected old posts. Did you change your "Convert line breaks" Settings > Formatting setting?
Teleute: We understand that full control is one of the reasons that people choose FTP. We're looking into how to handle resizing of images and uploading for FTP bloggers.
Jules: Thanks for the feature request!
DarkUFO: Interesting use case. We'll definitely look into it.
dos santos: Currently gone. Did you use it? For every post, or just in certain circumstances?
Anonymouses: Good feature requests. We'll look into them!
There's just two things that I want Blogger (or any blogging client) to do.
1. Enable a chronological (rather than reverse-chronological) presentation in some capacity.
2. Allow the text editor to do first-line-hanging paragraphs properly.
These seem like very simple things to do, and I have always wanted them because I thought they would be great for using blogs for writing fiction rather than diaries or articles. Can I pleeeeeeeeeease have them?
Thanks,
One thing: I see there are only four text sizes in the new Post Editor. I frequently used all five. Will that be returned?
@Pete: my blog is at http://blog.orebokech.com/ and no, I did not change this setting. Thanks for your help!
Hi, I posted a new article via Draft version and later edited the post via the original Blogger. After editing the post just became a mass! Is that normal or a bug?
I used it this morning and like the new picutre upload system. . but really missed the spell check.. .and video upload. It will be great when it is all done. . and oh maybe while you are at it. . you can put a button on to print posts with and without pictures .. no sidebar and no header. . pretty please.
My posts are all formatted with "justify". So I really, really would like to get that option back in the toolbar. It's a bit tedious to have to battle the editor adding div-tags all over the place.
/Magnus
The old and the new editor is clearly incompatible. The old one inserted </p> tags where it was necessary (before blockquotes, div elements, etc.). The new one does not do this. Moreover, once a post is published through draft and edited in the old way the line breaks disappear. No matter of the settings, they are not converted into <br/> tags any more.
A simple suggestion.. For the links pop up box. .Could you add functionality that would allow me to check a box that would have the link pop open in a NEW WINDOW?
thanks!
@Pete: Thanks for replying. Yes, so far I've been using it for every single post in my main blog.
A couple of issues:
(I'm running FF3 on Mac OS X 10.5.3)
- keyboard shortcut for inserting a link doesn't work anymore
- it seems none of the keyboard shortcuts for formatting work in html-mode, bold, italic, etc.
- you've changed from spans to <b%gt; and <i>. While that's cleaner in one respect, I actually take advantage of the ability to quickly insert a span with some formatting. Makes it easy to put in italic text of a different size, for example, by typing CTRL-I, backspacing two places, and typing "font-size:xx%".
- you're putting in a div for a color change instead of a span. That's just flat-out wrong.
- you've changed from a span for font-size to a font tag with size. You've also gone away from the preferable proportional sizing
I like some of the new features, but you've got a ways to go to generate clean, nice html with this editor.
Posts made in the new editor do not pick up the border and other picture attributes either. Long way to go still on this one.
I'm having problems with Blogger Draft... it not taking my posts :(
Yesterday it worked just fine but today I tried to make some posts that should appear during the early hours of Saturday morning but I can't, every time I press published it just stays there does nothing :(
Hey guys, nice improvement, but there is a problem: I use firefox 3 with an extension "FoxyTunes" that insert a signature at the end... with the new post editor this feature doesnt work!!!
please check it out
thanks
best Regards
Hi, I like to post youtube videos once in awhile with this new preview I can not see the videos to prove they play before I post.
Can this problem be fixed?
Thanks
有时间测试一下,看看新玩意好玩不
I like it. The only issue I've encountered is that I was having trouble getting some spacing around my pictures. I hit 'enter' and made everything look the way I wanted, and then it mashed it all together when I published. I ended up going into html and adding a paragraph tag where I wanted some spacing. That's a hassle. Presumably you'll fix that...
Can I request Blogger in Draft to be compatible with Opera 9.5? :(
Please (please) put on a button for justify text!!!
Also the whole issue with line breaks and spacing doesn't really work at all.
Sorry guys, but so far apart from the improved picture handling I'm not a fan. It now takes me on average HALF AN HOUR to get the format of my post how I want it to be.
Can we insert an audio in the post contain.. Tq
Really nice improvements.
One issue I noticed: my preview window doesn't show real formatting... :-(
Hi there,
I love the picture editor - makes my life a lot easier. However I did notice the lack of a border around the picture - it's a small thing, but it does help make the pictures pop!
I'll also be keen for the video upload function as well.
Haven't had any formatting bugs yet - fingers crossed!
The new post window took lots of corrections to get the post right in Flock browser.
Dawn: Thanks for the note! We'll look into getting all the font sizes back in.
Nameless, quexy: Yes, that may cause problems in some situations, due to the old post editor's more simplistic line break handling. If you have a sample of the HTML that caused problems, however, I'd like to take a look.
Magnus Seter, dos santos: If you want all of your posts to be full justified, you may want to add that as a CSS rule in your template. Then you wouldn't have to add it to every post yourself.
Romain: We have a known issue for the <pre> tag problem.
Matt: Good feature request.
R.A. Porter: Thanks for the through response. The keyboard shortcuts will certainly be added before this feature goes out to everybody. Using <b> and <i> is actually a browser decision that, for better compatibility, we're no longer trying to change. The <div> for color change we're looking at. It comes up when you've selected an entire line, rather that just a few words. Using <font> for sizing -- and believe me it pains me, too, standards-wise -- is unfortunately necessary for getting the size behavior that we want. Try nesting font sizes in the old editor to see what I mean. <font> is the only way to have font changes relative to the template but not relative to each other.
David: Long way is certainly true. We released this on the early side to keep everyone who wants to be in the loop on the new editor. As for the missing border, I've filed that internally as a bug.
Priscila Souza: FoxyTunes will need to update their plug in to work with the new editor.
Anonymous: What browser are you using? Are you pasting into Edit HTML mode or Compose? I can't reproduce the problem; the videos appear for me in the Preview dialog.
Adam: Are your pictures centered or aligned to the left or right?
YoNgShUn: Thanks for the vote! We're looking into it. Every browser is quirky with its rich text editing features, which is why it's not necessarily straightforward to add Opera support.
Nat@London Calling: Can you point me to a post where you're having trouble with formatting? As far as text justification, is that something that would make more sense in the template, turned on for all posts, or do you need it on a case-by-case basis?
Honestly, I hate the new editor. Bugs is not the word. I have lost posts, pictures, spacing gets f'd ... I have just stopped using Draft.blogger.com it is too painful at this point.
Pete: All you have to do is simply type two words in two lines using the new editor, publish it, and then republish it via the old one. Blogger, however, no more closes the opening (in-template) paragraph before a new block element (or was that FF 2.0?), so that's a completely different matter.
Hi, I am using Firefox and the problem is still with me while trying to preview youtube videos.
Also it is fine in internet explorer and I have switched off all plugins, still nothing.
Hello Blogger in draft, I liked the new changes you have made to the draft but there is things I would like to have which the older one had.
I used to align all of my posts are "Justified"
In the new editor, there is no option to align "Justified"
If I align my post as "left" it looks messy, so please add the editing option soon in the draft.
I would also like to know, how can I add videos to my post?
thanks, -Tamal
Pete: I used to have the justify in my template, but it seems to have gone AWOL. I've had problems in the formatting on my last two posts. The one yesterday I actually gave up trying to fix in the end after two hours. It used to be that what I typed in 'compose' was what I got in the post... but now it's all stuck together with no breaks. I've tried writing in HTML code and all sorts and it still won't work! I still like the draft version though as the image insert is SO improved!
@Pete: Thanks for the suggestion, but I'd prefer the option to be available to me via the editor.
/M
The New Post Editor is cool but there are some things to complain about.
I use a "Selective Expandable posts"-Customization that works with ...
< span id="fullpost" >
and
< /span >
... when i editet a post, the new editor displaces the < /span >-Tag. And i don't know why.
Furthermore: The new Image-Upload is simply crap! Why is the picture so heavy formated? It's centered, it's with a senseles margin and border. Why? Now i have to use the picasa-code to embed the my Pictures.
add a "Remove formatting" for Pictures, or bring back the old image-upload.
quexy: Thanks for the reproduction steps. I see what you mean. It looks like we have a bug in choosing which line break replacement strategy to use.
Tamal, Nat, and Magnus: Thanks for responding some more about full justification. Your votes for bringing it back have been counted.
Anonymous: We'll look into how the new post editor interacts with some of the expandable post hacks. Do you have the URL of a specific technique that you're using?
As far as images, the border issue (which overrides the image border settings from your template) is a bug that we hope to fix. Can you be more specific about your other complaints?
I am trying to embedded this
< object width="425" height="344">< param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CrYgX71alcM&hl=en">< / param>< embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CrYgX71alcM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344">< / embed>< / object>
remove spaces before and after /
Works fine in drafts on internet explorer, but Firefox 3 nothing.
Great job. I found two minor problems:
#1: Ctrl-K does not work as "insert link" in Compose mode in Firefox (works in IE 7).
#2: I have <p class='x'>text</p> in my post template. Compose mode transform that into a DIV.
Hey ! Help me ! I can't find any button on the post editor . It has just two tabs : one for Edit HTML and another for Compose mode .....and rest of buttons like Bold etc. are not there since , this feature is released .....
Is there something wrong with my settings ? I have checked for Java , JS etc. !
Help me !
I also use: < span id="fullpost" >...< /span > to create summaries on the front page, with a link to the full article. The technique involves Javascript in the head section, as per Amanda of BloggerBuster's tutorial. The new editor, if you switch back and forth between compose and edit HTML, mangles the code. Is there any way to prevent that?
By the way, GREAT steps forward with this!
@Komor : you can use span class="fullpost tag instead of "id" ! Try it !
@ Pete - Anonymous here ;) i use a slightly modified version of hackospheres "Selective Expandable posts" ...
http://hackosphere.blogspot.com/2006/11/selective-expandable-posts.html
and the image thing: when i upload a picture and embed it, it's centered ... now i made it "align left" ... but now it's not with a border, so if i publish the post the picture is not "on a line" with my text
I have a terrible problem with losing line breaks. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the breaks to stay in place. I finally switched back too blogger.com and the post I was having trouble with straightened out. Then I noticed when I switched, all my other posts had lost all the line breaks and run together. That is a pain...
Pete (and everyone involved): thank you very much for fixing my issue w/ pre tags!
nice improvement thanks !!
Please, add support for Opera browser! Should not bee too hard, since this works in FF and Safari!
The new post editor is a mess -- it takes me 2-3 times longer to go back in and fix the paragraph breaks. For some reason, my standard HTML that is automatically inserted at the beginning of every new post is now (unnecessarily) repeated at the beginning of every new paragraph -- and paragraph breaks aren't honored. I have to go in and delete the extraneous code and insert manual paragraph breaks. What gives?
Anonymous: I couldn't reproduce a problem in FF3/Mac. When I click "Preview" I can see the YouTube player and get it to play. What OS are you using? Are you pasting the code in to Edit HTML or Compose mode?
Expandable post hacks: <span> will definitely give you trouble. In Compose mode, every line is wrapped in a block level tag so that image dragging works. This means that inline tags like <span> won't span across lines of text. You can try using a <div> instead, though that may not be a perfect fix. I'll look into this.
William Kruidenier: Can you post the HTML that you use?
The new image editor in the new Post Editor is worse than before (at least in FF and Flock). It doesn't upload pictures to the cursor and the post editor window is so small that there is no ability to drag photos to a new position in the post.
Help me !!Hey ! Help me ! I can't find any button on the post editor . It has just two tabs : one for Edit HTML and another for Compose mode .....and rest of buttons like Bold etc. are not there since , this feature is released .....
Is there something wrong with my settings ? I have checked for Java , JS etc. !
I am using XP with Firefox3 for the youtube videos and its in HTML mode.
Pete: My pictures are all centered. It sounds like other people are having trouble with paragraph spacing, too.
The new editor will not add a link to an image. I have to go back to the old editor to do this.
I've got a blog that uses heavily customized template (not layouts) and I'm still using old post editor. I've been able to make a "read more" link using span class= "fullpost" where I wanted the post to stop and then a /span tag at the end. When I posted today, the post didn't stop where the "read more" link should have been, and various places after that had weird underlining (seemed random, although all hyper links were doubly underlined). When I removed the span class ="fullpost" all double underlining went away. Help! I really need to be able to make a "read more" link.
BTW, what I thought was strange was that previous posts still showing on the front page still had "read more" links which looked just fine?
in my blog, using the new editor for the post on 30th June, one extra line appear under '0 comment' before the content of my post. Also, my addthis bookmark button didn't appear as it should be like other post with old editor.
how can I fix this?
my blog is ianicy.blogspot.com
No idea what made it finally work, but I put the span class=fullpost back in, and it worked perfectly!
If you did something, thanks. If not, who is messing with me?
On images: Pics aren't centered properly, and they're missing borders.
I like the multi-upload function better than the old one. Also like the resize-bar. Good additions.
Hi There was 5 sizes of text now there are only 4 and the normal size is no longer normal
Can you bring it back please ?
Very weird, my addthis bookmark button comes back after I used the old editor to post a new post. However, the extra spacing is still here.
The addthis bookmark still don't work when my 30th June(the one posted with the new editor) is the first post displayed or in its own page.
The Edit HTML tab no longer has the toolbar (add images, bold, blockquote, etc.). I HOPE this is temporary!
I'm having problems with formatting. My main problem is with images. However, I'm also having problems with the new posts not showing some of the things that I added under the post-footer tag in my template html. I have added adsense ads there and also things like a digg button.
I forgot to add that in my recent comment that I appreciate that this new editor works really well in Safari, whereas the old one did not always work properly, sometimes forcing me to write in Firefox.
WOW!! Some really GREAT changes...some that I have been wanting for awhile!! MY FAVORITE - the improved image handling. I have been frustrated with the current functionality MANY times. Thanks! Can't wait to have it in the complete version.
Hi folks. I wrote up a quick bug reporting HOWTO for HTML bugs.
If you're able to follow the "I tried this / I expected to see this / I really saw this" format for bug reports it helps us immensely in diagnosing and fixing the problems you find.
All of a sudden I can't upload any images to blogger!! Help please!!!
I'm a new user to Blogger - about 3 weeks. I've been having problem after problem - most irritating are the 'crashes', the impossibility of making very simple modifications to templates that should already have very simple functionality and tasks already built in, out-dated-old school functionality, inacurate information and low to no help from Blogger's help or forums. There are mountains of comments about Blogger problems and issues - most problems have a high case of occurance - i.e. same problem for many people - pages of comments for one issue. It appears Blogger is a work-in-process. How can I 'upgrade' to get better functionality and service?
Great to see you working on the post editor. There are some nice ideas, I especially like the resizable window.
I am sure you have plenty on your plate, but here are a few of my annoyances that I would like fixed some day:
Optional autosave. I have lost track of the times I have stuffed up a post and had autosave cast it in stone.
Some way of referencing a previously uploaded image. Again I frequently reupload an image as it's the easiest way to get it into a post.
A warning if you publish without a title. Otherwise your posts end up with ridiculous permalinks that cannot be changed.
clean HTML. Remember the frontpage HTML nightmare. Mind you HTML stuffed with empty p and div tags is hard work too.
Anyway, keep up the great work.
What I really want to see is the ability to "justify" the paragraph alignment like we can in the old editor. This editor only allows justify right and left and centering. I like to justify all my posts and I will be very disappointed if Blogger removes this feature in the final implementation.
The problem I have with images is I can't get the text to be just beside the picture, which I could with the old editor. Instead, now I can only place text under the picture. What I want to do is to place the image of a band or record so I can place the information right by its side, and then the lyrics of a song underneath.
I feel I must also add that the draft post editor should not be used if you have one of those "enter what's shown in thr captcha image before you are able to post to your blog" situations. I think this happens when blogger suspects your blog to be spammy and flags it for review.
Stripping out paragraph breaks?
I’m using the Windows Live Writer technical preview (Build 14.x) as my blog post editor.
When I use Blogger in Draft as my dashboard and edit the post before publishing, my paragraph breaks have been stripped out, i.e. no white space between paragraphs. (Can’t say anything about the HTML codes; my knowledge of HTML is non-existent.) The post also appears on the blog incorrectly formatted, i.e. without the correct paragraph breaks.
The same sort of error occurred when using ScribeFire to compile posts initially.
As a result, I’ve had to stop using Blogger in Draft as my dashboard for now.
Please make the editing window bigger, it has been a frustration too me for a long time! And If I read these comments...I'm not alone!!!
Re the new editor... We're having some strange problems. We add new posts under the new editor, schedule them for publication, they go live and we find a typo, we click the pencil icon to edit it, hit publish, and all of the double new-lines disappear!!! All our paragraphs get smushed together without even a space after the last character of the previous paragraph (the period, usually) and the first letter of the subsequent paragraph. The only solution to this is to go back in and manually add paragraph tags. What's going on here guys?
Maybe this has already been said, but will all five font sizes be restored instead of those four featured in the new editor? I'm a large poster but not clearly as large as these people; for me the box size is fine, though I don't mind if you guys make it bigger for the others. Some of my requests:
Tracking back old pictures. Maybe you guys can store pictures in a gallery so we can keep using them?
Optional autosave. I don't really like autosave as it bothers me sometimes so can you make it optional in the settings?
Picture borders. I like the old picture border, but can you restore it and maybe add some other borders? It really makes things interesting.
hi..im having some trouble here..
i don't see any of the new changes that was mentioned..
and i also realised that i can't change my font colours unlike the other bloggers.
pls help..
thanks(:
Jelikin: Good requests! Thanks!
Anonymous: Full-justifiers have spoken. The button will be coming back.
Silvi: Try dragging the image to one side or the other.
Mayuresh: Oooh, good point. The editor on Draft will not work in that situation right now. Best to request a review from the main editor and wait. The reviews only take a day or two.
Maskil: Sounds like a similar bug to the one where editing a post with the old editor can mess up the linebreaks. We'll get it fixed!
Michael: Same bug as Maskil. You'll want to avoid the quick edit pencil for right now.
Aaron: We're looking into the five sizes. Thanks for the additional requests! The border problem is a bug that we'll address.
Did you see my feedback? Adding a link to an image is broken. It works in old editor but does not work in new editor.
I reckon the new features are GREAT!
I also love the new features in the Post Editor - Post Options
The options virtually combine a wysiwyg and html editors, which, I suspect, is what you're really trying to do. Isn't it?
Love it.
I'm testing, I'm testing!
BTW - the Word Verifications are becoming nearly impossible - even for humans! Eight tries that time. How many this time will only be a guess!
The convert line breaks seems to be broken. Even in draft and normal mode. I tried line breaks in Edit HTML and Compose and both do not work.
Please fix.
Sorry for my last stage post. I don't know happened.
Anyway I'm trying again
Please note I write text in word and post it to the blog editor and then add photos
I suppose some of the problems r due this way of work. Unfortunately my knowledge in html is zero.
1.Upload photos process is now slower and less efficient. Multi upload (and from multi sources) is very important.
2.Multi Photos placement in the page is not so efficient and in fact it's almost
impossible to do it in the wanted place.
3.Controlling of the photo sizes is primitive and not convenient. Why not to give option for custom size and custom location in the row.
4.Option for auto adjusts multi photos in a raw will be very useful and save time.
5.When I add rows between paragraph and photo, I do not see any Changes in the preview windows.
6.Resize image is not so practical in the small edit window
7.Justify button is missing. Please put back
8.Preview window is too small. Please enlarge or give option for resize
Thanks for the Blogger team for all the work and efforts
Hello. I use draft.blogger.com as my default yet I do not get the new editor features in ffox or IE. In fact, pressing create defaults to the edit HTML tab with no formatting bar and when I click on the Compose tab nothing happens. This means I lave lost the ability to upload photos, use the formatting buttons, etc. Whats up??
Is it possible not to make the Compose mode so smart to reformat my HTML which I had painstakingly crafted in HTML mode when I merely switch modes?
Also is it possible to include the standard links/blockquote/formatting in HTML mode like in the non-draft blogger?
hi...
Please, please, please fix the line/paragraph breaks problem. It's a real pain. I LOVE the option to schedule posts, but if I then have to spend time fixing them once they publish, well, it's kinda useless.
Thanks!
It would also like to justify the texts !
It was suggested that changes can be made in the CSS something I would do if only I knew how ;>)
I use FF3 on a Mac had no problem (so far).
Great work (always in progress).
This is great guys, thanks so much. Initial comment though is that saving manually is not working for me--anyone else having problems?
wow i like it do you
Did you guys fix the "/span" problem in expandable post hacks? It works now.
does it have auto save property? i found it missing
And what about justifyed text? I think that the new editor don't have the justify button and I don't link it.
I always justify may posts =(
But the image feature is *great*! Very thanks for that
We are wating for a "Related Post" plugin.
pete-just wantedto say that the new post editor is really great and the new picture thing helps alot
The new preview looks absolutely fabulous!
I also like the fact that you now use the same link editing control that is available in Google Notebook. A welcome addition would be the ability to edit the link "title" attribute in the same control (I use it to display the destination page's title as a hint when you hover the mouse cursor over the link).
Thanks!
Francois
Last update was one of worst time I never seen!!!
Disgusting!!! I'm going crazy!!! Bad formatting!!!
No justify, I cant leave many times spaces between paragrapher, I had to repeate justify tag.
What have you done???
Am I the only person who can no longer link an image to a web page?
I don't want a link above the image I want to be able to click on the image and link to a specific URL.
What happened--this is a DISASTER!

I found that if I used the <p> tag in in the HTML editor and then switched to compose mode I lost the <p> tag. This was within a list, like this
<ol>
<li><b>Title</b><br />
<p>Info</p>
</li>
</ol>
Going to compose mode dropped the <p> tag, and it was not there when I switched back to HTML edit.
For the past 3 days my Editor has been having loads of problems.
I can't edit at all, not even in html.
Did someone mess up my blogger account scripts?
Its very frustrating because I can't even upload videos or photos and the post options refuses to go away/hide.

I have created a Greasmonkey script that will increase the size of the editing text area to take up all the available screen size.
It would be great if you could integrate this into Blogger as I think everyone wants more editing space.
Can you bring back the keyboard shortcuts for adding links (ctrl-shift-a), and blockquotes (ctrl-l), and could you add one for adding images (maybe ctrl-shift-i)? Feel free to change them to other keys if you like, but it would be nice if you didn't choose ones that are already in use by Firefox.
I don't see this feature in my blogger tool ... I had saved the post as a draft but then when I edit the draft I dont see this editor. Am I doing something wrong?
Thank you so much for all new features!
I would love to have the option for links to open in a new window instead of having to manually insert target="_blank". If you could just have a check box for
Still having the serious issues which I posted about here back on July 4. Any help available?
Hello Friends I am Bhanu from India

Hi Iam using this all new features, and feeling so happy. But the thing is the size of image is very small even enlarging it to biggersize. So if any improvements for that it will be very good.
My e-mail address that I signed up with a few years ago is no longer accessible, and I can't remember the password. How can I retrieve it? My new e-mail address is jdunph1@gmail.com, and my username is jimmy0357.

I like to compose my message in HTML mode, can we have the formatting toolbar there too please?
Also, why is the text of the post inaccessible whilst the image is uploading?
There is a problem with images alignment, when I edit this post:
http://miqueridopinwino.blogspot.com/2008/07/instalar-el-mejor-reproductor.html
I see centered images -I like centered-, but when I publish them the images appear on the left.
Appart from this, I like how the things go with this new editor.
I'd really like to see a button for split post or some know it as extended text so the whole post isn't taken up on the blog, ie the read more link. none of the suggestions in the help sec work and it would be easier for those that don't post in html. thanks for all you are doing!
My tuppence worth on the new post editor in Firefox 3.0.1. Summary:
1. Greasemonkey broken (incl. large post editor, Technorati tagger, keep current time to ensure draft posts bear the date of publication not first creation)
2. Ctrl shift a and ctrl shift p don't work (ctrl shift p publishes not previews).
3. Images - various points please see my post.
4. Saving confirmation/failure - at top too?
5. Ensure keyboard shortcuts generally work; toggle between Edit & Compose view? Bulleted lists in Fox?
6. Show Post Options all the time.
Cheers!
More complaints -
Cut and paste in compose mode deletes all hyperlinks.
Line breaks within or between bullet points are very troublesome - even in html mode the frequently disappear.
I have tried, and still cannot delete a blog I posted and the 'title' of it. I so would like it if one of the administrators could help me out please. Thank you.
Something is not working right for me.
When I go to create new post or edit old posts it only gives me the option to work in html. I have tried it in both internet explorer and safari web browsers. Then when don't use blogger draft (and go back to the old way) I don't have the option to work in html at all!
Can someone please help me?
Thanks!
This comment is in response to the lack of customer care support services. There is no contact email available. Nor help available at the help centre. I did send a post to the help group regarding the problem of uploading a video recently though not before.
This is off-topic, so I know it will be deleted, but can someone over there look at my blog (http://dixieyid.blogspot.com)and un-block it. I am not a spam blog and it is very annoying to be still waiting for someone to look at the blog and verify that it's not a spam blog. Thank you!

I have one comment on the new post editor, when you are uploading pictures, it does not open up the uploading page in a new window. This means that I can not edit the post while I am uploading pictures, which I do not like.
Maybe it's just my blog, but I can't seem to change the color of my font anymore. Is there a way to fix this?
great, thanks for the update!
help! NO post editor is showing up for me. i can only edit posts in html mode. I cannot click on the compose tab using blogger in draft. please help!
The old post editor previewer was marginally functional for me, at best, and I have to say that the new one is mostly a step in the wrong direction (for my specific purposes).
I've manually edited the HTML template for my blog (Layout->Edit HTML), and have specifically poked at the CSS so that my layout is wider than the default. This allows me to use a larger image (as the first element in every post) than was feasible with the default layout.
With the new preview, all I see now is the top-left corner of that image — to see anything useful, I have to scroll an unreasonable amount. And given how short the preview window is, even if the width were reasonable, I would have to scroll down every single time I want to preview my textual content (which follows the image).
A potential solution for this would be for scroll position of the preview window to persist across when it's closed and subsequently reinvoked. However, I would rather have the option for the preview to be as large as my browser window again.
That said, what I would _really_ like is for the preview to, at the very least, respect the CSS in the layout template. I use a partially-customized light-on-dark template, so the preview doesn't actually do much to show me how a post will actually look.
If it helps to understand my use case, my blog is xsdg.blogspot.com .
I am very new to blogging, and I have struggled with the images being at the top. I used your help to find a comment about blogger draft (had no clue what that was). And, it worked GREAT. I am not fancy - I just needed to easily put text under photos, and it was SO EASY!!!! THANK YOU so much for this feature.
I would really, REALLY like to see a button or something for creating tables.
No anda con explorer y anda a medias con firefox
New post editor is overall good although I'm having a bit of an issue dragging images around text especially when editing to add new text around or under an image. One thing I do believe should have been added is Indent / Outdent options. To be able to Indent (or Outdent) a block of text instead of tabbing by line - YEAH!
Two things really. I am having those formatting problems and stuff, but its been spoken of plenty and in more detail than I can provide.
What I want is more about convenience:
1 The cursor remaining where it was placed when toggling between compose and html modes. Its very convenient when you suddenly want to shift to code view to tweak something, or see how what you tweaked looks. Particularly in long posts, where scrolling can become a pain.
2 Copy pasting content should keep links intact in compose mode. The old editor does this.
I'm not trying to be fussy when there are larger issues remaining, but I think this will be nice to have.
Please !!!!!
Place a button to justify the texts in the text gadget.
We thank you for those who do not know HTML.
The articles has this button, but the text does not Gadget.
Thank you.
When will you add the right to left text button?????

how come i didn't see my new post editor?
the colour text icon has been missing in the POSTING SECTION. which
mean currently im NOT able to change CERTAIN PART of my text to other
colour. i can only change the whole colour text of all my posting.
previously i posted my issue here and the reply i got, suggestin me to
click on the customize. but that will only syncronise all the colour
text of my post. this is not what i want.. please assist me again~
Not too crazy a bout this one. I like the old one much better.
I'd like to endorse Tadhg's suggestion about chronology. I guess the point of the current configuration is that when you're at the end of the latest post you're automatically at the beginning of the second-to-latest post. But that doesn't work so well for blogs which are meant to be read chronologically. I've got a blog which is a record of a movie I wrote and directed here in New Zealand last year. But reading it in a reverse chronological order involves a lot of scrolling.
... and one other thing. Blogger is fantastic and you guys do a great job.
I second that, JC! Blogger Team, you rock! Keep up the great work.
شكرا لكم
it is very good!

It will be great if the main page updated with

Can someone update the post with

Problem with HTML span tag with New Post Editor
http://bloggerindraft.blogspot.com/2008/07/new-toolbar-ajax-saving-and-other-fixes.html
<div>s in Edit HTML are now better-preserved in Compose mode. This should fix most post summary hacks. If your hack uses <span> tags, please switch to using <div>s
PROBLEM: Added line break when using the Divs tag with New Post Editor.
My post template is:
<ul>
<li>Line1</li>
<li>Line2</li>
<li>Line3</li>
</ul>
I opened up a new post in Firefox3 on XP and typed the below code in "Edit HTML"
<ul>
<li>Line1</li>
<li>Line2<div class="myDivClass">This is my own DIVs class</div></li>
<li>Line3</li>
</ul>
When I switched back and forth from Edit HTML mode to Compose mode, I expected to see the exact code that I have typed,
but the new editor added a new line break after the Div tag
What I saw was:
<ul>
<li><b>Line1</b></li>
<li><b>Line2</b>
<div class="myDivClass">
This is my own DIVs class</div></li>
<li><b>Line3</b></li>
</ul>
When switching to Compase Mode and back to Edit HTML Mode
One more line break is added
<ul>
<li><b>Line1</b></li>
<li><b>Line2</b>
<div class="myDivClass">
This is my own DIVs class</div></li>
<li><b>Line3</b></li>
</ul>
With blogger in draft, I cant seem to link an image to another page. I can only link text to another page. I really hope you will either fix that or tell me how to create an image link in your new system.
At least two other people have already asked this but neither got a response, so I don't know what my luck is like, but...
Could you *please* make an option to make the editing window bigger?

Oh my. No matter what I choose for a font and font size it won't stick when I publish. It goes back to small unless I go in and manually change all the small font to normal font. If there is a list then I have to do it over and over again for every item in the list too.
Also since using it my comments link is at the top of my posts under the title but yet some people tell me they still see the comments at the bottom of the post where I actually want it and where I have put it in the post editor.

How do I change my DEFAULT font in the editor?
Help please
Where is the spell checker now?
I would like to enable post editor for one blog and have it disabled for a different blog instead of consistency between blogs
I have to switch between post editor styles between two blogs. I cant save posts for a future date with old editor on one blog , and I can't insert an image to show up in my gallery on another blog due to the way images are handled.
so i find myself having to switch between the two very often.
If there is a resolution please contact me via email . I am frustrated for sure.
