Blogger in Draft Bug Fixes for May 9th

We’ve made a handful of fixes to improve Blog List:
  • A “See All” link when you’ve truncated the list
  • Icon loading is deferred for better page responsiveness
  • Post title now links to post’s permalink
  • Newly-added blogs are highlighted on the configuration page
  • More reliable adding and removing of blogs, and better feed and title detection
If you’ve customized the Blog List widget template at all via Edit HTML, you will need to reset the template to get some of these new features.

We’ve also made some visual and reliability fixes to the new Gadgets directory, particularly around adding custom gadgets.

Note: we’re looking into reports of bX-e441ek errors for some people who have added Blog List to their blogs. We hope to have a fix out for this presently.

The icon and the title feel really smashed together. Why can't I change the margin or padding in my css by adding
.blog-icon {margin-right:10px;}

This should work, right? But it doesn't.

And when do we find out why only blog admins can add Blog Lists? ;)

DIAMONDKT said...

I like it better now, but there are just 2 small problems I'm having...

How I can remove the excess space found after the icon? I want the icon and link to be side-by-side, like seen on the rest of my blog.

And two blogs in particular won't add to my list. They are...

http://www.dvorak.org/blog
http://www.jillwrites.com/myblog.html

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Two problems I'm having:

1) http://asberdies.blogspot.com/ does not add as a feed, only a link.
2) The Bloglist is still not automatically updating for me. I have to go into Layout and resave the list every time I want it to update.

I have removed the blog list gadget since it is not working since this afternoon having fatar errors that avoid to go back to the layout page and even making the blog unreachable.

Finally i've removed the gadget from html template edition.

Any help on this?

Hey, I was just thinking...

Is there any way we can get an online forum started devoted just to Blogger In Draft beta questions?

I know there is already the Blogger Help Group, but it doesn't seem like anyone is ever able to help with beta questions on there.

So if we had a forum just for the "testers" here, then we could all help one another.

I have the same problem as many users, namely that the Blog List will not let me add certain blogs. (Pressing 'add' just makes it stall, until I give up and 'cancel'.)

In my case, the unfortunate two blogs are:
www.infiniteinjury.org/blog
publicreason.net

By the way, is there any way to subscribe to "follow-up comments" without actually posting another comment? (I often forget the first time around, and don't usually have an excuse to add a second comment like I do here!)

pat hawks, use margin-right:10px !important;

Dear developers, please add functionality that will allow to choose link behavior—open in new window or open in the same window.

Think I've found out why my blog list wasn't seeming to update. Seems to be due to the manner in which Firefox caches the page. If I clear my cache it updates, but its a pain to have to do this every time I visit!

Wonderful! So I wake up one morning this week to find that ALL of my blog links are missing for no aparent reason other than they just are. This is the second time this has happened and I don't particularly look forward to spending another couple of hours setting it up again. Before yo tell me to import, that feature has yet to work for me. Nevertheless, I give it a go tomorrow. If it happens again, consider myself through with you guys. I'll just move everything over to Wordpress.

Dmitry: Try editing the template and removing the target="_blank"

Merecraft: Thanks for the tip! Yes, you may need to reload / force-reload the page in Firefox, because it may have a cached, old copy. We're aware of this issue and looking into it.

Mix Digger: Ha! Awesome!

Keith: Does the page element disappear or just the subscriptions? Are you editing your template at all when this happens?

Keith a.k.a. K j A M said...

Thanks for replying, I really didn't expect a response. The page element remains but all of the subscriptions are gone. It's hard to say when it occurred. I noticed it this past weekend and just thought the page had not fully loaded (which happens), but didn't realize that wasn't the case until yesterday morning. The last post I made was on Saturday. Yesterday I added a HTML add for Podbean and another one for Technorati this afternoon. Other than that...nothing. The address is www.partyfavorz.net

Keith a.k.a. K j A M said...

oh wait, yesterday I added a meta tag to verify the new domain for Adsense. Since that's done, maybe I'll take it out.

Keith a.k.a. K j A M said...

Hey Pete,

I attempted to start re-adding to my blog list and the couple I get it to take won't show the recent updates as it had before. More importantly, most of my links cannot be accepted without an error (a problem I never experienced previously). I deleted the original list and refreshed and began a new one. Now as soon as I click "add list" I immediately receve a javascript error in the lower lefthand corner. I'm certain this is where the errors lie. So, here's what it says if this helps:

Line 171

Char 472

Error Syntax Error

Code 0

URL http://draft.blogger.rearrange.com?
blogID=

here it's a long series of numbers and widget is indicated.

Hope that helps.

Not to be a pest, but to further expand on your initial question, other than the meta tag this morning (which seems to have disappeared on its own...strange) I have not made any edits to the layout since adding a third column and a new background two months ago. Since I'm on a serious learning curve with this HTML stuff, digging in to make any further changes to the blog other than the widgets provided by blogger, are a headache I'm not willing to deal with right now. I'll digress...my answer is no.

Hi there, Great widget (New Feature: Blog List) but can i change the colors, because my blog is black? I can`t read the posts in the widget..

Dataceptionist said...

I've also had major problems with this feature. 6 blogs I added the latest post refuses to load. Interestingly 5/6 are Blogger blogs. I ended up reverting back to a simple list because the imbalance looked weird on my blogroll

Pete said...

Keith: Thanks for the additional info! I'll forward the details on to the appropriate folks on our end.

It doesn't seem to get added to my bloglist ! [:(] ..

Any idea y?

DIAMONDKT said...

As much as I like the "idea" of the new Blog List widget, it's entirely too glitchy to keep using on my blog.

I understand it's in beta testing and there will be bugs in it. But when it starts corrupting my entire template, then I have to trash it and go back to a regular link list for a blog roll.

Also, it just gets frustrating when nobody can help you answer questions on it. I posted a couple times on the Blogger Help forums, but never got a reply.

I hope the Blog List widget continues to be improved and becomes stable enough to use. I think I might just wait until it finishes beta testing to give it another try.

My blog list updates some of them and other never. I think it's because the ones that are by permission only don't have the proper RSS feed. I dont know. But can we get that fixed? Regradless if a blog is open to all readers or private, there should be a way to get them to all update.

I love this feature.
I hate that is doesn't work right.

hello!

the widget "add to feed" make my blog very very slow!

This widget make the blog "dead" for 4 to 5 seconds before it comes alive again.

Please chech that it is working properly.

Thank you!

PS. We would also like to see a "relative posts" widget and a "best of posts" one.

I suppose what I'm asking is a little bit off-topic, but I added the "search in this blog"-gadget to my blog, and now I have two searching fields, one in the navbar, the other made by the gadget mentioned above. Isn't it possible to integrate the "search in this blog"-thing into the navbar or just below the navbar? I know, seeing people who are using a mouse can drag and drop the page elements, but I'm blind and am using braille, and don't know how to replace the gadgets so that the "search in this blog" isn't sitting on the bottom of the page and the navbar on top of it.

Mix Digger said...

Very very nice the new gadgets but, and mybe it is not the right post to ask, but why is the google search gadget so slowing to loading at the website???
I`ts only when a refresh my blog..
somebody???
thx..

I found some bugs:
1) When I republish an old post, the Blog list's gadget does not appear updated. In fact, it seems to ignore this update (it shown as the last post created last). I guess the gadget takes the date of creation of the post rather than the date of publication. This could bring other problems with future publications, and to save in draft.

2) The blogs info is not updated until after several hours...
