New feature: Subscription Links

Our new Subscription Links page element makes it easy for your readers to subscribe to your blog's feeds. We've added one-click subscriptions to six popular feed readers: iGoogle, Google Reader, Bloglines, Netvibes, NewsGator, and My Yahoo!. Since you can now put your feed links in your sidebar instead of just at the bottom of your blog, more readers will see them and subscribe to your blog.

In addition to blog posts, your readers can subscribe to feeds of comments. The comments feed on your blog's homepage contains all comments, while the feeds on post pages only have per-post comments.

We are launching this feature on Blogger in draft while we gather feedback from you. Are we missing your favorite feed reader? Please let us know what you think in the comments below.

In case you missed it: if you're looking for more control over your feed, try redirecting it to FeedBurner! Learn more.

Could I implement this new feature in my blogger right now? Or I have to wait until the new blogger is launched?

many thanks

Feedburner doesn't work in the feature at my blog

Hi! How do I integrate this with feedburner?

Thankyou

The AddThis.com subscription button is the only button you'll ever need.

It will let your visitors and subscribers choose from a wide variety of bookmarking sites and feed sites. It will take up a lot less space on your blog (one button). And it's free; of course.

i am loving this.... ;)
Good addition...!!

Thanks for the comments!
I've updated the post to point to better instructions on how to integrate with FeedBurner. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/3b5vzm

Nice feature .. would love to see 'bigger' features :P

Nice addition but .....

1) The links are not (yet) localized in french : I can read "posts" ( instead of "billets" ) and "all comments" (instead of "tous les commentaires")

2) Why is the feed link the "blogger one" and not "the feedburner one" ? If one day I decide to move my blog elsewhere, I'll loose all the subscribers who clicked on those buttons, defeating the purpose of using a feedburner feed.

Anyway, thanks for all these nice additions you made lately

I think not all of the chicklets redirect to the feedburner feed.

I already had the feed redirected. For example if I choose the "Add to google", the feed is the original one, not the feedburner's.

Is someone having the same?

People aren't taking to the changes on Blogger's commenting system. People HATE it.

Comment numbers are dwindling because people using wordpress, typepad, etc. are annoyed that they can't link back to themselves anymore.

This is not just me. All the Blogger users I know feel the same way, and most everyone is talking about moving to WordPress. What is up with this? Put up a poll and see how many people approve of this. Blogger is going to lose a lot of people because of this.

Lisa said...

One more thing. It's great that you're putting up OpenID, and props to you guys for it and all that. But do not take out the option to just leave their URLs in their comments. Bloggers have the option of deleting comments if it's a matter of identity theft or whatever it is you're trying to prevent with this move.

Make a blogsearch for it, and you'll find everyone and their grandmother is complaining about this. I love all things Google which is why I'm using Blogger, but this is just unnecessary and annoying.

The Lisa Show said...

So many people are complaining about this. Have you read the comments in the OpenID post? Could someone from Blogger PLEASE answer these questions ASAP? It's the majority's opinion that this is a stupid move. Google already owns the internet. Why are we being denied this option? This is Blogger, not Livejournal or Vox. Both LJ and Vox are dying out. Your better users are going to end up switching blogging platforms.

Regarding FeedBurner: If you have FeedBurner redirection enabled, then the Blog*Spot feed URL should redirect to FeedBurner when the feed aggregator fetches it.

So, it'll look like your readers are subscribing to "http://bloggerindraft.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default" (or whatever) but the feed they'll see in their feed reader is the burned version.

Or are you not seeing that as being the case?

MB said...

@pete

1) OK, the buttons labels are localized in french right now ( although the text label is truncated ( "Tous les comment" instead of "Tous les commentaires")

2) The feedburner redirection is working indeed : the feed reader sees the feedburner feed url

I gave these a try and dropped them again. I like the more extensive options AddThis offers.

I was thinking about taking advantage of the comments feed, which is nice, but haven't got around to it, mainly because my attitude towards Blogger has grown increasingly ambivalent as a result of its heavy handed dropping of the URL field. Instead of tinkering, I find myself exploring blogging platform alternatives. Would that it weren't so.

Hi, with reference to "subscribe to feeds of comments" that you mentioned, I wonder how can reader do selective feeding? E.g. can readers choose to receive postings that have a particular label?

My subscribe to feeds Gadget is not appearing....been about 4 days and I've logged in several times. Also moved it around my layout to see if that would fix it...and tried adding/deleting the gadget several times. Anybody else seeing the same problem????

Please tell me how I can contact Siobhan Quinn. She has rightly praised Spain's oldesdt blogger, Maria Amelia (96) but seems to have overlooked the world's oldest blogger, Olive Riley (108) of Woy Woy, Australia.

I thought the new search bar was making my blog load slowly. Actually, it's this subscription link. Triples the load time. So I tried AddThis.com instead. Works like a charm.

David said...

I've added the feed subscribe widget, and it shows up on the "arrange elements" page, but does not show up on the blog. Tried both Safari and Firefox on a Mac.

I added this feature and loved it. However, it made may page take multiple minutes to load. As soon as I removed this, the page sped up again. Is this a problem other people are seeing?

Lauch said...

Not sure where this feature is. I'd like to add this to my page, but that page element is not available.

Lisa said...

Hi,

I use the Old Blogger template, so can I access the code for this feature?

Thanks,
Lisa

How can I add this feature to my blogger?

Steve said...

I've been blogging using blogger for almost a year now. But for the last two or more months, it has been exceedingly difficult -- at any hour, as far as I can tell -- to upload photographs. It rarely works. Now, it doesn't work at all. Also, it is much harder simply to post. The impression one gets is that you fellows are beyond capacity and simply haven't added enough yet (I've been through the standard trouble shooting numerous times; it's not the pop-up blocker or cookies). Thanks Steve oilandglory.com

Can you add facebook to the list?

Please include Blogarithm in your feed links

This is a great idea. Hope you get the new features up soon.

Can't the pulldown menu texts be modified? - At least in the Spanish version "todos los comentarios" is broken (Only "Todos los comen" appears, in my theme), not very nice.

Or, alternatively... could the text appear in a smaller font size?

Also, and as an added comment, if the list of links could be customized it would be just perfect.

I am excited about this feature. I have burned and burned in feedburner with nothing happening. I sincerely hope it is not going to be as unfriendly as feedburner is at this time. I have gone through the steps upteen times.

How about an add to PageFlakes?

Great idea,

but I'd love to see the Amazon Kindle feed reader as well.

It's going to open up new words for most.

I would love to put a "Subscribe by email" feature in my blog. Most people don't use the Feeds and just use email for this kind of thing.

I like it. Please add My MSN. I have several readers ask me for it. My MSN seems very cranky about getting a feed added, I would love it if you figured out the strangeness of MY MSN so I don't have to. :) Thanks

Since I added feedburner performance had reduced to a crawl.
Posting and updates take twice as long and sometimes freeze on a tab for 2/3 minutes. too slow for me - how do i get shut of it??

Well, as the saying goes, "beter late than never"!

I recently took some time to catch up on updates and noticed this very efficient feature that will aide my intention of daily blogging during the times when I am scheduled to be far away from computer access.

Wow...way to go Blogger Team. As for all the other features that are available, I am educating myself on them and of course I hope to find them personally useful to my blog.

Cheers!

Has anyone added Feedburner's Email Subscription box to your blog, via the Add Page Element widget? If so, does it work for you? I've added it and, while the box shows up okay, it won't allow me to subscribe (as a test); it gets stuck at the verification code page, reloading a new code each time I click Submit and going no further. Anyone?

Lisa Barrett said...

I recently tried this feature for about a week but noticed it significantly slowed down page loading time. Seemed to affect IE more than firefox.

Couldn't believe this little widget was to blame at first, but after systematically adding and removing everything else off my blog, this was definitely the culprit. Glad to see other people have noticed the same thing.

I'll try it again at a later date. I liked it, so hope it gets fixed.

Hi all. This feature is now live on www.blogger.com, so I'm closing off the comments here. Thanks for your feedback!
