Video Upload: FAQ

Frequenty Asked Questions for Video Upload on Blogger in draft

Why can’t I see the video upload icon?
The icon will only be visible in browsers that support the Compose mode editor (Firefox and Internet Explorer) and only when you’re logged in to draft.blogger.com.

Where are my videos hosted?
Videos uploaded through Blogger are hosted on Google Video.

Are my videos indexed or searchable?
No, your videos are kept private and will not be included in Google Video search.

How long does it take to upload and process a video?
Uploading a video may take a while, since videos tend to be very large files. However, the exact amount of time required will depend on the size of your specific video and the speed of your internet connection. The processing stage usually takes about five minutes. Blogger will display a status message below the post editor to let you know how this is going, and there will be a placeholder icon in your post to show where the video will appear.

Can I upload videos with spaces in the file name?
Not right now. Spaces in the video file name will cause an error during processing. Make sure to remove spaces before uploading.
Yes! (Updated 6/20)

Do uploaded videos count against my 1gig photo quota?
Nope! Upload as many videos as you like for now.

Will the videos we upload show up on Google Video under uploaded videos? I'm not seeing anything yet.

this is one of the coolest ideas I've heard from blogger recently.... however I wasn´t that happy when I wanted to upload a 9MB video and saw nothing, I tried it twice.. the second time I had been waiting for more than 2hours and a half.. is the server that busy or what should I do?

When I viewed the blog after uploading the video, it just immediately started. After I uploaded 2 videos to 2 separate posts (1 video each), they both played at the same time, and I was getting overlapping audio. Can we have it so the video does not automatically play, but only when the viewing person presses the play button?

Thanks!

Why doesn't the tool remove the spaces in name automatically???

Why humans have to do everything?? Right from designing such tools..?

:D

My video uploaded ok and was playing fine but now it just buffers for forever and won't play. Is that something to do with the google video servers or is it something else?

I don't have the little video upload icon available to me when I try to create or edit a post. Hmmm...

Very sorry for the double comment, I put this in another Blogger blog. But I deal a lot with video in education, and feel this is important. (I don't see the video upload button on my OSX 10.4.9, in either Safari or Firefox, I'm sure this will be fixed).
I have two suggestions:
1. If we upload QT or MPEG4 H.264, please don't re-encode to Flash, you will kill the quality. Revver and blip.tv don't do this. Well, they re-encode, but the original file is still available and usable, so you get a choice.
2. Have a player like blip.tv's Thumbnail Flipper. That is, just generate an image of the video. When you click on it, it will play. Look at my test "QT Video from blip.tv (thumbnail flipper) in
http://faculty2007.blogspot.com/
blip.tv really has the best suite of options on how to play back embedded videos.
Always nice to see Blogger improving!

Not to beat a dead horse, as the old saying goes, but here is the same video in Blogger in Draft, both in the original mpeg4 and the converted Flash version.

I did see the video upload button in this blog in OSX/Firefox.

The upload worked fine for me, but I have the same problem with them starting all at the same time, but only in IE, Firefox doesn't do that.

Darnell Clayton said...

Hey Google,

Having the video automatically play in IE is not going to sell this very far.

Until then, I think I'll stick with YouTube (and perhaps the original Google Video) as they seem to have less problems regarding this.

It is such a cool feature - too bad it doesn't seem to work. Our vido shows as uploaded, but it doesn't work on the blog. Bummer!

Still looking for the button...

Frank Fulchiero said...

Can't see the button in Mac/Safari. In Mac/Firefox, I have to quit and relog in every time I want to post a new message, or else it does not show up.
Just for fun, I tried uploading audio-only files: wav, mp3, mp4, audio-only mov, but it would not take them.
Someone suggested a podcasting function, this would be REAL nice, allowing us to also post audio only files.

Sheesh, the more you give them, the more they want!

Many thanks for introducing Blogger in Draft and the video uploading feature.

I've detailed my initial feedback in a separate post but in summary my points are:
- center the video automatically?
- clearer progress bar?
- problem with uploading bigger files (over 5MB, at least if WMV)
- bug when editing posts with video
- introduce a way to view and manage uploaded videos like Picasa for pics
- don't let videos autoplay in Internet Explorer
- add buttons under published video to facilitate sharing
- start a Known Issues blog for Blogger in Draft generally.

Cheers
Imp.

I agree with Kelly - the videos should not default to play as soon as the page loads. Overlapping video and sound...user should have to press play.

What if i wanted my videos to be indexed and searchable by Google video? Is it possible?

Craig said...

how about posting video from a mobile device? i do it now with photos and love it. how great would it be to be able to post video right from my phone to the web, from anywhere...

Ritsumei said...

I love the new feature! I'm just beginning to play with the video features on my camera & this came along just as I'm ready to post a few. THANKS! I'm excited to see this feature become fully functional!

My bug:
My video appears in preview mode, but says that it's 0 seconds long & won't play. Once I actually publish the post & view the blog, it's not there at all, just a box with an "x" in the corner.

Steve Woolston said...

I cannot find the button to upload video - have logged in to draft.blogger.com and then clicked on 'view blog' and 'new post' but everything is the same as previous.

I am using Firefox 2.0.0.4.

Can anyone help?

motiono3 said...

Altho most people prefer uploading their videos to Youtube and Google video, there are other video sharing sites out there that make uploading and embedding a lot quicker, for example Yahoo Jumpcut is a lot faster than Youtube when it comes to conversion of your video, but there is also Motiono.com which is instant, you upload and boom it is ready for embedding.

We use blogger platform to run three language community magazine, so, each language version has its own URL and its' own blogger ID.

My video upload question is the following.

I envision I will need to use the same video file for three posts in three blogs. While the post heading and few words of accompanying text would be different, the post video will be identical.

My question is there a procedure to ovoid video uploading 2nd and 3rd time? Perhaphs, I could use coding of the first video upload in two other blog posts?

Thank you for your help

Sincerely

nice. Works in safari beta for windows - uploading and viewing.

One improvement would be the ability to drag and drop files on to your uploader. Shutterfly has this.

It takes three....count them, three days to upload a video. Well, 3 days worth of trying, until I give up. I hope it's fixed fast. When they do finally upload it takes a few hours. This is with .mov files in IE.

Quick question: Are the videos thus uploaded streamed to the vieweres, or downloaded?

I'm having the same problem as Ritsumei. My Vid uploaded and previewed fine.. but after publishing i just get an empty square with an 'x' at the top left corner.

The World According To Chilly said...

If you uploaded a video but after publishing there's only an empty square, change your html-text as follows:

!!!!!IMPORTANT were I wrote ( and ) you must change it into < and > !!!!!

(OBJECT class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-e07c3e9ee2debc75" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" contentId="e07c3e9ee2debc75" height="280" width="320")(/OBJECT)

Don't forget to add the "-marks, use the video-Ids of your uploaded video and put height="280" width="320" at the end of (OBJECT......).

I wish you success!

I noticed my comment August 26th, 2007 3:07 AM was not shown completely.

Here's again the html for publishing your video :

!!!IMPORTANT: Where I wrot "(" and ")" you must change it into "<" and ">"!!!!!

(OBJECT class="BLOG_video_class" id="BLOG_video-e07c3e9ee2debc75" codebase="http://download.
macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/
flash/swflash.cab#version=
6,0,40,0" contentId="e07c3e9ee2debc75" height="280" width="320")

Can I upload Mp3 on my Blog ??

Mike said...

I like the idea of uploading videos and have a large number of such that that play with QuickTime.

However, most of the time I try to upload, the entire movie seems to upload and then it simply sits unable to complete. An 11 meg movie uploads all 11 meg and then keeps trying to upload something and never stops...

I find it very frustrating and am thinking of going back to the Internet Archive which is clunky and hard to use but which does work!

I uploaded one 2MB video that loaded fine but for the past week all video posting gets stuck in the 'processing' phase, sometimes going for up to 48 hours before admitting there is a problem. Why won't they load? This great new feature is turning out to be useless.

Nice to have a page with FAQ, but nicer if there were answers to them....like why does it take so much time to upload, does ot allow to save, does not allow to publish...etc
